Recording Preparation

  • Plan on using a click track! Make sure your drummer is comfortable playing to the click at the defined tempo.

  • Record each song you plan on recording in the studio during live gigs and pre-production rehearsals. Simple cassette recording using a boom box may well reveal weak parts of songs.

  • Have all musical parts and vocal parts worked out in advance.

  • Have all the guitar solos well defined!

  • If using a computer or sequencer, prepare all of your sequenced material previous to your recording session(s).

  • Rehearse more songs than you plan on recording. It is hard to predict which songs will sound strong once recorded. (If you want a four-song EP, have six songs ready to record.

  • Eat well.  Sleep a lot.  Rest your ears.

  • FEEL what you play, and play what you know.

  • Now Let’s Have FUN!

Thank you for contributing to the Indie music scene!  Without you, music would be uninspired and all sound the same.
